Treatment of bone fractures.
Bone growth is a crucial aspect in the healing of fractures. The Ossatec Bone Growth Stimulator stimulates this process using pulsing electromagnetic fields (PEMF). This makes our Bone Growth Stimulator ideal for treating slow- and non-healing fractures, also called delayed unions and non-unions. However, this non-invasive treatment is also a good alternative for patients who object to surgery or for whom surgical intervention cannot be achieved or is hard to achieve. Finally, Bone Growth Stimulator also enables excellent treatment of fresh and risk fractures.
The bone growth stimulation system
The Ossatec Bone Growth Stimulator consists of a patient unit, a 9-volt battery (either chargeable or non-chargeable) and a coil to transfer the signal. This may be a cylindrical coil, a flat coil or a double flat coil. The best coil depends on the type of fracture and the limb in which the fracture is located. Would you like to know more about the different coils? You can find an overview here.
- The patient unit produces the pulsing electromagnetic signal, regulates the right strength and continuously monitors the system
- The cylindrical coil is employed in the case of a broken arm or leg. This coil is especially suited to casted fractures and surrounds the long bones, so the fracture receives maximum stimulation. The cylindrical coil is available in four sizes.
- The flat coil is oval, approximately as large as a hand and available in two sizes. This coil is employed in non-casted fractures, with flat bones and with carpal and tarsal bones.
- The double flat coil stimulates bone growth on both sides of the fracture; the so-called helmet hold.
